lmora District is situated in the Kumaon hilly terrain of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is renowned for its natural beauty, hand-crafts, biodiversity, delectable cuisine, and historically rich monuments. The town holds significance as it was the flourishing capital of the Chand dynasty. The region’s history dates back to the reign of the Katyuri king Baichaldeo, who donated the area to a Gujarati Brahmin, Sri Chand Tiwari. In 1560, the capital of the Chand Dynasty was shifted to Almora from Champawat by Kalyan Chand.

The town is perched on a 6 km long horse saddle-shaped ridge, offering breathtaking views of the snowy summits of the Himalayas. Almora is known for being the workplace of ascetics like Swami Vivekanand and the great poet Sumitranandan Pant.
