Naini Lake

About Naini Lake

Naini Tal, commonly referred to as Naini Lake, graces the town of Nainital in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. This natural freshwater body, of tectonic origin, takes on a distinctive mango or crescent shape, culminating in an outfall at its southeastern end. Nainital, a pivotal hub for tourism and recreation in Kumaon, is also steeped in Kumaoni folklore, with the lake occupying a central role.

Situated in the Nainital district, often hailed as the Lake District of India, Nainital Lake holds prominence as one of the four key lakes in Kumaon, alongside Sattal Lake, Bhimtal Lake, and Naukuchiyatal Lake. It proudly claims the title of the third-largest lake in Uttarakhand by surface area.
