Jageshwar Temple is situated at an altitude of 1870 meters on the banks of river Jata Ganga. The primary Shiva temple is surrounded by 124 smaller ancient temples dedicated to various deities. According to Skandha Purana and Linga Purana, Lord Shiva was worshiped at Jageshwar, which is the birthplace of the 8th Shiva Jyotirlinga.

Legend has it that Adi Shankaracharya visited Jageshwar Dham and renovated and renovated many temples before continuing his journey to Kedarnath Dham.

Both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshiped in Jageshwar Jyotirlinga.
